Who we are....
SOFAC is a regionally
based environmental networking project which includes many
grassroots organizations as well as established environmental
groups. We stand for sustainable development, reasonable economic
growth, and environmental protection in the Mid-Hudson Valley.
Many battles are currently being fought in our area to protect
public health and to preserve precious natural resources, wildlife
habitat, and scenic beauty. SOFAC brings together the talents,
skills and experience of groups and individuals who are dedicated
to environmental protection by offering various networking and
media opportunities to the community.
THE CHALLENGES...
Public dialogue and
involvement is essential on issues concerning air and water
quality, habitat protection, scenic beauty, and historic
preservation. Ineffective environmental laws need to be changed,
local development plans need to be closely monitored. As
municipalities, government agencies, and private interests begin
to take a more active role in deciding the future of our region,
citizens and environmental groups need to be kept informed in
order to effectively participate in the process.
OUR GOALS...
-
To focus public attention on
local and regional environmental issues
-
To give people the tools and
information they need to get involved
-
To keep the public informed on
health and conservation issues facing our area.
-
To connect individuals to
groups and organizations working for a better tomorrow.
-
To encourage and empower young
people to get involved locally.
-
To strengthen the community by
providing more networking opportunities.
